Blah To Mwah – A Living Room Transformation

One Room Challenge Week One

The fall One Room Challenge is finally here! I honestly don’t remember how or where I heard about the One Room Challenge, but I know it wasn’t until within the last couple of months. Since learning about it, I have been anxiously awaiting October. If you are not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it is a biannual (spring and fall) six-week challenge to transform one room of your home. It can be any room you choose, and I have chosen our living room. I will be posting weekly updates to both my blog and Instagram account each Thursday to keep you all up-to-date on the happenings.

If you have been keeping up with my Instagram stories lately, you know that we have already begun working on our living room transformation. Our entranceway is completed and we have started demo work on the rest of the living room. Our current focus is completing the cloffice (closet office) end of the room.

A little background info on our home:

My husband and I purchased it in February of 2019 while we were pregnant with our little girl, and began renovating immediately. Our home is a 1972 builder-grade house that has not been updated much at all (cue the random wall heaters on every wall). We have now renovated three rooms-two bedrooms and a bathroom-and each room has been its own challenge. From rotted floorboards, to peeling paint, to plumbing that doesn’t connect to anything, we’ve dealt with it all.

I take one look around our very 70s living room and have a mild panic attack about completing it in six weeks, but then I remember all we have already accomplished in a year and a half. This will be a breeze!

Inspiration from @prettydomesticated on Instagram

My inspiration for our cloffice comes from @prettydomesticated on Instagram. I will obviously add my own personal touches, but this is a great starting point for me. The neutral tones and black accent wall make my heart so happy. I have already purchased black paint and will be painting over the next couple of days. We have also begun working on the desk and the sliding barn door that will go over the cloffice.

The soon-to-be fireplace/bookshelf wall

The wall on the far side of our living room will be transformed into a full fireplace/bookshelf wall. We will need to fill in the current “bookshelf” situation (an old window that the past homeowners turned into a bookshelf of sorts), and we will also have to custom build out the shelving around the fireplace.

Inspiration from @mscraftberrybush on Instagram

Our fireplace inspiration comes from @mscraftberrybush on Instagram. I knew I wanted to go bold with the fireplace to sort of draw the eye in. The rest of the living room will be fairly neutral, so I wanted to turn our fireplace wall into a focal point.

As for the rest of the room, of course we will need to paint walls, lay flooring, update baseboards and trim, paint windows, update furniture and decor, etc. We have a long journey ahead of us, but I am SO excited to see how it turns out!

I am in love with your design board! I have a similar modern boho style and I’m so drawn to the natural wood colors, terracottas, all of it! Your living room is gonna look SO GOOD when you’re all done! Can’t wait for the reveal!
