Blah To Mwah – A Living Room Transformation
One Room Challenge Week Four
Let’s be brutally honest, my friends… Some weeks progress looks like a beautifully designed and decorated “cloffice” (cue my progress photo above from last week), and some weeks progress looks like a patched hole in the wall. I realize a patched hole in the wall isn’t particularly aesthetically pleasing, but it signifies a lot of hard hours of work, a lot of late nights without much sleep, and a heaping pile of dedication.
This week our biggest challenge was removing the chimney flue which ran all the way up through our roof. Kenny spent the better part of the weekend breaking down the chimney, brick by brick, block by block. He also had to repair the roof in the place the chimney had been, as well as patch the wall and the subfloors. I am happy to admit that I wasn’t much more than a “tool-toter” this week as all of the above projects are way beyond my level of expertise. I’m thankful for such a handy husband who is truly a Jack-of-all-trades.
Tonight we finished the flooring, and tomorrow we will begin installing the baseboard, patching the trim, painting the wall, and caulking everything. After all of this is completed (hopefully by the weekend), we will start working on our last wall of the living room-the fireplace wall!
Some weeks when it feels like we are moving in slow motion, I have to stop and remind myself that slow progress is still progress. We no longer have rain leaking into our attic due to a faulty chimney. We also no longer have a crumbling chimney compromising the structure of our house. These may seem like little things, but they are huge to us.
The photo above is our loose inspiration for the fireplace wall, and I cannot wait to get started working on it. We will be building out the frame to insert the fireplace and then building shelving on either side. The moody black tones will complement our cloffice well-balancing either side of the living room out with dark warmth.
Here’s to all of the crazy changes that will be happening over the next couple of weeks!

Thanks, Sam! I agree it’s huge progress, just not quite as aesthetically pleasing, ha. Thank you for your encouraging words!
