Blah To Mwah – A Living Room Transformation

One Room Challenge Week Five

It’s Week Five of the One Room Challenge with Better Homes & Gardens. Woo-hoo! Raise your hand if you don’t know how this six-week challenge, season, and year, in general, are flying by so fast. Also, raise your hand if you are as ready for Christmas as I am.

This week was filled with a lot of tedious tasks-patching, painting, trimming, caulking, etc. Unfortunately, I developed a cold over the weekend and was not able to get as much done as we had hoped. We still have not started on the fireplace/built-in shelving wall, however, we have prepped the area and will begin this weekend.

The biggest accomplishment this week was completing our gallery wall where the chimney flue was. The story behind these frames is a fiasco if I’ve ever heard one. I knew I wanted three large frames to fill the wall, so I chose these 24 x 36 poster frames from Target. They were absolutely perfect for what I needed. I decided to go with an 11 x 14 opening for the photos for a more artsy, triptych feel, so I had Hobby Lobby make custom-cut matte boards. The not-so-fun part was that the photo print place I chose printed my photos too small. I did not realize this until mid-framing, which led to trying to find a creative way to tape the photos to the matte board in hopes of keeping the gaps from showing. In the end, it all worked out, but not before a slight mental breakdown, ha.

Our new ceiling fan and recessed lighting are also making their first appearance on the blog. Both have been installed for several weeks now, I just haven’t shared a photo which you were able to see them. Our Home Depot ceiling fan is a more sleek, modern option for those who are tired of the same ole, same ole. I love how it compliments the black barn door hardware, gallery frames, and window trimming.

Last but not least are our new Beachwood Arm Chairs in Camel. Only one is pictured above because the other is still in the box. This one is not staying where it is now-they will both be on the other end of the room in a little fireplace sitting area once that is completed. For now, though, its home is under the gallery wall.

I am getting so excited about the final reveal of our living room! We will be working hard this weekend to complete our fireplace wall. It is going to be so good once it is completed.
