Brainstorming A Good Blog Post
After running a poll on my Instagram Stories recently, it became very clear that many of you, like me, are beginners to this whole blogging thing. The majority of you also shared that you do not have a set system to brainstorming your next blog posts. Because of this, I decided to sit down and create a FREE Blog Brainstorming printable for you guys. In this blog post, I will explain how to use my printable to brainstorm YOUR next blog topic!
First, set aside some time to brainstorm. Creativity doesn’t happen at the snap of a finger! Brew a cup of coffee, grab a snuggly blanket and your laptop, and find a comfy spot to curl up.
Next, head over to my Shop and download and print the free “Blog Brainstorming Kit.” You are going to need this!
On the first page of the Blog Brainstorming Kit, you will find a large circle in the center with a lot of smaller circles surrounding it. The large circle should be labeled “Main Theme,” and the smaller circles should each say “Sub-Thought.” We are going to write our Main Theme first. For this example, I am going to write “How To Bake A Cake.” From this theme, I am going to come up with eight or more (but no less) sub-thoughts-“Set oven to 375, add flour, mix in sugar, etc.” This part of the process is very fast-paced and messy. Don’t overthink it! Jot down the first things that come to mind because we will refine our thoughts on the next page.
On the second page of the Blog Brainstorming Kit, you should see “Blog Title” at the top, with eight bullet point lines below it. We will actually work this page in reverse. Starting with the bullet points, transcribe your sub-thoughts into a more reader-friendly idea. Instead of “Set oven to 375,” you might say, “Preheat oven” and elaborate further on this step on the actual blog post. Do not worry about coming up with exactly eight points! You can do more or you can do less. It was important in the beginning to have plenty of sub-thoughts, but now we are condensing those thoughts. This part is all about making small changes to improve the professionalism of your post. KISS IT! (Keep it simple, stupid!)
Once you have completed your bullet point lines, you are ready to refine your Blog Title. Take your Main Theme from the first page and turn it into something more eye-catching. Instead of “How To Bake A Cake,” you could write, “Yummy Chocolate Cake In 5 Quick Steps.” Give as much detail as possible without making the Blog Title too long.
Now you are ready to type your blog post! You should have the outline you need to make typing out your thoughts SUPER easy and well organized.
If you tried using my Blog Brainstorming Kit, let me know how it went in the comments below!
xoxo
