Christmas Charity Opportunity

Christmas is the season of giving. As such, many of us are looking for an opportunity to lend a helping hand around this time of year. Our hearts and eyes seem more open to the suffering of others, and we are more willing to go out of our way to be a light to others at this time. Kenny and I had been actively looking for a charity to support this Christmas, which is why I am so happy that One Dollar For Life reached out to me. I am partnering with them to raise awareness of the people they support and the situations they face.

One Dollar For Life is a registered nonprofit organization whose main goal is to assist women and children in poverty-stricken countries in achieving and maintaining physical health. They build birthing centers and medical facilities in countries such as Nepal, Kenya, Nicaragua, etc., so that women are able to birth in clean, safe rooms, and children are able to receive the vaccinations and care that they need. They have also completed other projects like building schools and latrines, and drilling wells. Their impact is reaching many! You can visit this link to see a list of projects and countries those projects were completed in.

Their current campaign for Christmastime involves feminine hygiene and is called the Girls’ Equality Project. The Girls’ Equality Project provides washable sanitary supplies to teenage girls in the developing world. The kits cost $5 to make but are free to the girls who receive them. Without these supplies, the girls cannot manage their monthly menstrual cycles. They will use leaves and grass to try and control it, but will eventually drop out of school, and instantly become second-class citizens. In worst cases, they are sold as child brides and sex slaves. They often become pregnant at a very young age. Girls’ Equality Project is one of the most cost-effective solutions to ensuring girls in these countries are able to live a normal life and continue their education.

These kits only cost $5, which is cheaper than a grande latte at Starbucks. And they will provide a menstrual kit for a young girl for THREE YEARS! If each of my followers donated $5, we would have raised $42,560 and provided 8,512 kits to girls in need. Consider this a challenge!

$5 is not much, but it can absolutely Change. A. Life.
